Wishing on a Star

Christmas 2020 was never going to be quite how we wished it would be. Plan after plan to see my family fell through for us, as we navigated the difference in laws between England and Scotland. Not to mention trying to decided if travelling for Christmas was the right thing to do. In the end the powers that be made our choice for us and we were gifted with the first Christmas all to ourselves. That brought its own minor problems though. Having no food, limited decorations and a short time to bring Christmas to our flat.

Tier 4 restrictions made decorations difficult to source five days before Christmas so I turned to my hooks and yarn and scoured the internet for ideas. Within a couple of days I had a bowl of cute little stars to bring some festive charm to our dining table.
These little stars weren't all plain sailing, my first few attempts tried to build up the points of the star on each round but it lead to a more convincing flower than star. A quick look around the internet for crochet stars made it clear that a more common approach was to build each point of the star individually. I proceeded with a compromise between the two approaches, avoiding fastening off for each of the points and continuing along the round after completing each point in turn.
I think they have turned out quite well for a small spur of the moment project and they certainly did their job well!
I didn't write down a pattern as I went for this one but here's the best I can do from memory:
Amigurumi Star
Makes: 1 Star
I used Wool and the Gang's Shiny Happy Cotton and a 4.5mm hook for these stars.
Repeat twice to make two sides of the star.
Row 1: Make a magic circle and make 5 double crochet (dc) into the circle, slip stich (ss) to the first stich (st) and pull to close the circle (5 stiches)
Row 2: Increase (Inc) 5 times (10 stiches)
Row 3: *1 dc 1 Inc* repeat 5 times (15 stiches)
Row 4: *2 dc 1 Inc* repeat 5 times (20 stiches)
Row 5: *3 dc 1 Inc* repeat 5 times (25 stiches)
Row 6: *4 dc 1 Inc* repeat 5 times (30 stiches)
Row 7: This row encompasses each of the points so repeat the following five times:
Row 7a: 5 dc turn
Row 7b: 2 dc, 1 decrease, 2dc, turn
Row 7c: 3 dc turn
Row 7d: decrease to 1 stich (normal decrease but go through all three stiches) turn
Row 7e: dc down back to row 6, you should dc into each row as you go down and dc into the corner of the pentagon formed up to row 6. If you can't get a dc into each row, don't worry it'll still turn out okay!
Row 8: with all of the points complete dc all around to neaten up the edge, try again to dc into each row as you go up a point. Fasten off.
Once you have produced two stars sew together and stuff.
